I found out about CovertIncest.org through a serch in ixquick.com. I normally use altavista.com or ixquick.com for searches because I have epilepsy and those two search services are seizure-friendly (no flashing or rapidly repetative advertizing) . . . unfortunately CovertIncest is not . . . but it seems to be where I need to be at this time so I will live with it . . . Bright Blessings . . . Any Anymouse posted a couple of years ago about flashing ads. I doubt if they will see this, but for anyone who might find this useful, there is now an easy solution. Get the Firefox web browser. Then get a plugin for that browser called Adblock Plus. The plugin blocks ads, flashing or otherwise.

When my therapist identified this condion in my history with my mother I went straight to the internet and looked for more information on the subject. Initially, this idea of being overtly sexually abused by my mother was confusing. However, through reading and therapy (and watching my mother transfer her behavior onto my brother) I have accepted that my mother had overtly sexually abused me in child, adolescent, and young adulthood. The loss of child hood and healing have been a very difficult journey. I have had to change the way she taught me to act and thats very hard. This website has provided me a wealth of information. I have been connected with it off and on for over 5 years. Thankyou

I Googled "covert incest" after thinking about my ex-'s and how their parents response to my relationship(s) with them has been a huge part of my insecurities within the relationship(s). I believe it also contributed to the downfall of those relationship(s). My ex-husband said a therapist diagnosed him with the effects of "covert incest". I had no idea how important that statement was when it was made, but that's another story. Suffice it to say that I have had my share of "Mama's boys" and I am sickened by the reality of it. I used to be proud to tell others I thought I was a "Daddy's girl". But I never admitted how much I hated my mother. I came to hate my father, too. Now I just hate myself, the world & living alot of the time & I know I need help. palooky

I found out about Covert Incest in Barnes & Nobles, and I later found this site through Google.

I began doing searches for emotional abuse - not knowing what CI was - and a few sites came up on the subject. I am not even sure why I clicked one of the links for CI because I would have never thought the term "incest" would pertain to me... To my surprise, all the info I was finding read like someone had been observing my life...

I used Google, but I would never have known the expression to search for on Google without the Law and Order SVU episode, like so many others here. If only they knew how many lives they changed with that one episode! I went straight to the computer on the first commercial break, but it took me years before I was brave enough to acknowledge it in therapy.
