I'm curious to know how everyone found out about this site. My guess is most of you came here via Google. This will tell me the best way to reach out to other survivors. Thanks!

I was searching google for 'covert abuse' and found your site.
I didn't even know the term 'covert abuse' or 'covert incest' until I phoned a helpline here in the UK, told them about what happened to me and said 'I know a lot worse happened to other people, and sometimes I think I'm just over-reacting (which is a response that I automatically have, and that I now recognise as being part of the control mechanism inflicted on me ie: it is integral to my being, because that's what I was told since I could hear!!). Anyhow, the helpline sent me some info and the words 'covert abuse' flashed out on the page and I though 'wow, that's what happened to me'! I think the term covert incest or covert abuse are not commonly known, so it would be good if your site came up with general abuse sites, so that if people are searching for a name for what happened to them, like I was, they could find out the information they need. Seeing the words 'covert abuse' on the helpline literature was a turning point for me, because it meant that there was a name for what happened, that it WAS wrong, and that other people had been through the same thing. It enabled me to seek psychological help.
Thanks

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, I think it'll be very difficult for this site to come up with general abuse sites unless I pay to have it show up. However, it does show up on top when you search for covert incest on Google.

I found out about CovertIncest.org through a serch in ixquick.com.
I normally use altavista.com or ixquick.com for searches because I have epilepsy and those two search services are seizure-friendly (no flashing or rapidly repetative advertizing) . . . unfortunately CovertIncest is not . . . but it seems to be where I need to be at this time so I will live with it . . .
Bright Blessings . . .

Wow, I never thought about that. Unfortunately, the ad on top is outside of my control. Sorry!

By looking for yet another book on Amazon. I was in shock. Still am. Last time I went to the doctor all that was said to me was "sounds like you need a friend". Yeah, what gave you the first clue? Can I be a doctor too and say this to people and get paid for it? I'm being sooooooo sarcastic I know but it surely lit the fire under me. Changed doctors, changed my attitude, started reading more..and so thankful for the insight found here.

Isn't that just the most amazing and wonderful realization? I came here after the Law & Order episode was rerun last night and I've spent quite an interesting day catching up on answers that I never realized I had questions for. Not only am I not alone, but I'm not crazy or an ungrateful daughter and I have reason to despise the person who did that to me. What a sense of relief. Thanks for being here. Vivian

Hi,
I found you through Google, but I came across the phrase "covert incest" through a search on Amazon. I still have to get the book though.
Thanks for this site. I will publicise it here in the UK.

I Googled. A while back I was discussing things in therapy. My therapist used the term 'emotional incest' and that really resonated. Recently I have had a breakthrough in recovery in other areas of my past, and so, in this spirit of self acceptance, here I am.

I think I found out about the site through another forum- called Pandora's Aquarium- for survivors of rape and sexual assault.

I arrived here after reading in an abuse page about the different kinds of incest, I knew mine wasn't overt or sexual so when I read "emotional incest" and an explanation I understood there could be more appropriate help for me. So I googled the term and got here. As somebody said here 2 years ago I think it would be good to include this site in general abuse pages so others can know that "covert incest" is not normal.
