I would like to start a nonprofit organization to educate the public on covert incest and to help those who are too close to a parent break away, so let me know if you are interested.

Here's what I got so far for the mission statement: Our goal is to prevent covert incest from being passed on to successive generations by educating the public and providing services to those who are too close to a parent. We intend on making covert incest a household term by releasing statements to the media, distributing literature, and holding special events, and we seek to build a network of mental health professionals and support groups where survivors of covert incest can receive assistance in separating from a parent.Any feedback would be appreciated.  |

Hey Moriji,
I heard once that we as a society don't take any mental health issue seriously until a celebrity has that issue and becomes part of the popular news.
So, my approach is writing a novel that will be turned into an "Oprah" show or a movie that will gather popular attention, and bring celebrity sufferers out of the woodwork, or at least give covert incest celebrity status by being associated with Oprah, or a movie, or a novel.
Maybe there is someone else with similar designs and more writing skills who could expedite the process!

Green Trees, you are probably right. I've thought about writing such a story myself some day. But don't wait for me to get started. I've seen your writing and I think it's quite good.
But speaking of celebrities, I've long suspected that Jim Morrison of the Doors was a covert incest survivor. His father was a military man who was rarely around. And after leaving home, he avoided his mother at all costs. Once she came to one of his shows so he got his agent to show her to a hotel room where he was supposed to meet her after the show. Of course, he never intended on meeting her and escaped when the show was over.

I would like to form a nonprofit, but I will need to find people to help me run it. Preferrably, at least some of them would have previous experience running one. And it would help if we lived close to each other.
Here in California, you need at least two people to run a nonprofit. So there is no way I could even start one on my own.
But I'm sure some day it'll happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

By the way, we can still educate others about covert incest even if we are not a nonprofit site. I encourage everyone to post links to this site in other forums and sites you frequent. For example, I always put a link to this site in my profile and signature on other forums. I just noticed today that Kire has posted about covert incest on a political website: www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=276x1348. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. It will also help bring more survivors to this site. |

I will do my fair share. I have several lists on Amazon and I made a new list onwhich I placed Pat Love's book. As the comment I put in the link. It doesn't activate but it is there so people can type it in themselves if they are curious.

That would be a great thing. I'm in the process of writing an informative article on covert incest to our local newspaper. I came to this site for some information and ideas.
I've learned that my daughter is a covert incest victim and I'm trying to help her. I divorced her father over 10 years ago. He used her as a surrogate wife. I'm in therapy now to try to help myself and my daughter. One of the suggestions from my therapist to productively deal with some of my rage was to print an article on covert incest. (He's a well-known figure in our small community.) He has also become known now for paying questionable attention to young women.
I would love to become involved in helping to educate people like myself on this subject. If I only knew some of the signs years ago...she always excelled in every thing she did, I never knew anything was wrong. It wasn't until she tried to go off to college and started having terrible panic attacks that symptoms started to unfold. I was concerned and started to investigate...
I live on an island off the coast of Alaska, I desperately need some help and advice. But I've been reading and researching for some time now, and if I can help with an organization in any way count me in.
