I am not a survivor of covert incest. Can I still post here?
Although I created this site for survivors of covert incest, you will not be excluded. Mental health professionals, researchers, and people who know survivors of covert incest are welcome to read and post here. But do keep in mind that this is a place for people who grew up with covert incest to talk about their experiences.
I grew up with both overt and covert incest. Do I belong here?
Having grown up with overt incest (or other forms of abuse for that matter) does not exclude you. In my opinion, overt and covert incest are just opposite ends of the same spectrum. I don't think it's a far cry for a parent who engages in covert incest with a child to cross over into overt territory.
I grew up with covert incest, but I don't fit the stereotype. Do I belong here?
Again, there is no criteria for being here. Everyone's circumstances are unique so I would expect there to be differences. Having grown up with covert incest does not automatically make you a certain type of person. A lot depends on your personality and how you coped with the abuse.
My significant other is the one who is too close to a parent. Do you know of a site where I can receive support?
Yes, we have a sister site called Covert Incest Forums for Partners (http://covertincest2.proboards29.com) where partners can give and seek support.
